GREETINGS FRIENDS
A
trip to Japan this summer for a yoga retreat at the Yoga Spot
in Yokohama brought me to the foot of the Kamakura Daibutsu,
the second largest Buddha in Japan. Built in the 8th century
within an overarching temple hall, a tsunami washed the temple
buildings away at the end of the 15th century. Ever since, the
Buddha sits calmly in the hills, communing with nature, a reminder
that we would all do well to regularly sit in nature and reconnect
with our inner bliss. The exposed buddha is also a reminder that the laws of nature are a
powerful force to be reckoned with and respected, and if you
understand the laws of nature, you can build structures that are
sustainable, even under great force. This newsletter focuses on the importance
of detoxing mind and body to reach our natural state of balance,
including two free lectures coming up in Santa Monica that I
want you to know about that support cleansing and calm.
Peace & light,
Camilla
DETOX YOUR INNER AND OUTER BIOTERRAIN
See my Health Alerts at onebodymind.net for
a list of toxins commonly found in our homes,
food, and toiletry products. Remove these
products and replace them with products that
are safe, produced by companies committed
to your wellness. Read the labels before
you purchase. A suggested list of safe products
can be found in the Healthy Products
Guide. Cleansing the inner body
requires that you remove stressors and toxins
from your food and water, and saturate your
body with the nutrients it needs to rejuvenate
and revitalize. Cleansing the emotional self
should happen at the same time, and is equally
important. See the Guide to Bodymind
Balancing for the basics you need
to get started. When we detox, we listen
to nature's intelligence and give the bodymind
what it needs to come back to balance: nutrients,
clean water, fresh air, sunlight and rest.
HEALING BY DETOXING MIND & BODY
No concept is more central to preventative health than the
healing crisis. A healing crisis is a period of imbalance
as the body struggles to return to health and can be seen
as part of the body's natural process of detoxification.
Western medicine might interpret symptoms that emerge during
a healing crisis as illness, but to Chinese and Ayurvedic
medicine and holistic health practitioners, these very same
symptoms are indications that your body is trying to heal.
In other words, getting sick can be a part of getting well.
Discomfort can be a sign of improvement. It's important
to understand what a healing crisis is, because if you try
to relieve your symptoms without addressing the deeper cause
of your discomfort or disease, you can end up actually feeding
the original state of poor health that caused the illness
in the first place. Each illness is an opportunity for the
body to move toward greater wholeness, and in any illness,
nutrition and detox will play a key role in the healing
process. To help prevent illness, detox regularly before
you reach a crisis to maintain a state of natural balance.
Note also that when detoxing the whole self, you will have
to take responsibility for cleansing old emotional energies
and postures that are no longer relevant to the need of
the day. Emotional cleansing, or unstressing, is as important
as physical detoxification to your overall wellness, and
the two are best done simultaneously.
