THE SUBTLE BODY: HEALING YOUR MIND
Purifying your thoughts

MEDITATION
chakrasWe have about 10,000 thoughts per day. Unfortunately, 98% of them are the same thoughts we had yesterday! And many thoughts that might have been adaptive at some moment in the past are no longer so, and may even be maladaptive. Meditation is an ancient technique for transcending thoughts, purifying the mind and de-stressing the body, producing states of restful awareness that in 20 minutes are as restorative as a full night‚s sleep. Over a thousand scientific studies now exist documenting the health benefits of meditation. Five years after beginning a daily meditation practice, average meditators are 8 years younger in biological age than when they began, because meditation lowers cortisol levels (stress hormone), blood pressure, heart rate, and strengthens immune response. And the effects last long after the meditation itself is over. I am pleased to announce I will provide meditation instruction to interested clients and students, having recently graduated from the Primordial Sound Meditation teacher training developed by Deepak Chopra and his partner Dr. David Simon. Primordial Sound Meditation uses a mantra calculated from your time and place of birth to approximate the vibration of the universe at the time of your first breath. The modern practice is adapted from an ancient tradition of whispering the birth vibration mantra back into the ear of the child to remind them of their pure core vibration at the time of their manifestation into worldly form from the Unmanifest. WATER
heart-nebulaWe are more than 70% water, and children and infants have even higher percentages. Nothing is more vital to our overall health than pure fresh drinking water. Unfortunately, the water coming through your tap and your showerhead are hardly pure if you live in Los Angeles. And even Santa Monicans who have never experienced fluoridation before Oct 2007 are experiencing it now as the MTBE (fuel additive) contamination of city wells has forced Santa Monica to buy water from the LA Municipal Water District that chemically treats its water with industrial fluoride, also known as fluosilicic acid, a toxic by-product of agribusiness‚ production of fertilizers that it sells back to city water treatment facilities under the bogus argument that industrial fluoride (often contaminated with lead, arsenic and naturally occurring yellow-cake uranium) prevents tooth decay.
IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY NUTRITIONISTS THAT TOOTH DECAY IS THE FIRST SIGN OF POOR NUTRITION, AND IS CAUSED PRIMARILY BY THE MODERN DIET OF WHITE SUGAR, WHITE FLOUR, AND SKIM MILK PRODUCTS, NOT LACK OF FLUORIDE. If you don‚t filter your drinking and shower water, now is a good time to start. Buying water in bottles is not sustainable, and not safe since plastic leaches. If you need filters, check out Aquasana‚s sale on its best-selling drinking water and shower filters: www.aquasana.com. Or check out the Big Berkey, a Red Cross favorite in earthquake and disaster zones, because the gravity ceramic filters filter out even benzenes, and can make the most contaminated water drinkable. Be sure to buy the fluoride and arsenic filter when you order here.

This month’s topic: BREATHWORK

birth experience

Breathing is the core experience of being alive. People often hold or constrict their breathing when they feel frightened or upset, and sometimes this becomes a lifelong pattern of constriction and holding back. The October Power to Heal Group will focus on releasing the diaphragm and chest cavity, and on exploring breathwork in our bodywork practices. As infants, our first breath launches our individual autonomy from our mothers, and our last breaths we experience alone. At the core of sensory awareness techniques we find the study of breathing, and breathwork is crucial to most forms of bodywork and many forms of meditation. Stanislav Grof, MD, developed holotropic breathwork techniques to transcend ordinary states of thought and awareness and access experiences of non-ordinary consciousness

The Power to Heal group for bodyworkers meets once a month, usually on the first Monday at 8:30pm to 10pm in Santa Monica. Focus is on somatic- emotional release. The group is an accessible resource for bodyworkers to process issues and practice full-spectrum bodymind communication. Share the dynamic transpersonal growth of group work. Suggested donation is $40.
