Pranayama

Pranayama

Pranayama is a part of the eight stages of Yoga. Pranayama is an essential part of daily practice. The term derives from Sanskrit and literally means ‘extension of prana, breath or life force’.

The word pranayama also indicates ‘breath control’ as it consists of two parts:

  1. Prana: ‘VITAL FORCE’
  2. Ayama: ‘CONTROL’

Therefore, when practicing pranayama, the breath is actively and intentionally controlled.

Benefits of Pranayama, It can:

  • prevent and reduce the physical effects related to negative stress.
  • calm the mind by allowing it to focus attention on the inhalation and exhalation phases.
  • improve respiratory capacity by oxygenating all parts of the lungs.
  • improve digestion and the activity of the endocrine system.
  • reduce blood pressure and reduce tensions in the body.
  • promote concentration and memory.
