Mindfulness Everyday – A practical example

August 19, 2020November 3, 2020by Riccardo De Paolisin Blog, EventsTags mindfulness

I gladly share a small example of Mindfulness practice brought to everyday life.Students of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction protocol during the 8 weeks of practice have the opportunity to explore meditation techniques according to a systematic and scientific approach.
The possibility of broadening awareness allows us to observe life with different eyes and with renewed curiosity.
In this way it is possible to develop a greater descriptive capacity of events and create a small space of freedom.

The path is based on the acceptancewithout judgment of an experience in order to act rather than react to life events.
That is, the emphasis is on being in the present moment rather than looking away. Bringing the attention back to each moment allows you to reduce the perceived stress level, increase cognitive flexibility and perceive a greater sense of physical and mental well-being.
This morning I was thinking about how to explain Mindfulness in a practical way.
It was 6 in the morning and I was preparing a coffee.

Being mindful means having the care and attention of how do you fill the edge of the machine, taking care not to wet the base and coffee.
And here I am often wrong … but I do not judge ..
And then it means observing the coffee, smelling its aroma and perfume.
Care must be taken in placing the mixture in the machine.
There are those who place it flat and those in a pyramid.
This is an example of diversity!
And then we have to wait and be patience.
I notice a little anxiety about being late.
And I say to myself: “Wait a minute, does it help having this idea?!”
So I wait in front of the stove and I enjoy the blue flame.
Where does the gas that magically comes out … miles away … gas fields … how many countries it crosses and how many people work there.
And then I listen to the sound of the coffee coming out.
First in the distance then I hear it increase in a crescendo.
What am I feeling? Maybe joy and fun in hearing the sound.
I decide to open the machine like when you unwrap a gift as a child,
With the same curiosity and openness.
I wait a few moments because I recognize a hurry and a desire to do things, and I say to myself, “wait a second, stay a bit longer”.
I pour the coffee into the cup.
It is hot and the smell of coffee rises, awakening the senses.
I try to appreciate the aftertaste of coffee. It’s Lavazza I think … well maybe Palombini would be better with its nutty aftertaste.
There is always something missing from our experience … and I say to myself “enjoy it as it is!” Breath…
I close my eyes and I think that deep down in Naples they had already guessed what Mindfulness was.

Namaste
